07/21/2008 "Hauling over the house" Over the weekend Scott and I started on the house. We're trying to get priorities in place before we do anything, but there's a LOT more stuff to do to the house than we originally estimated because the previous sellers were so backwards. Things we NEED to fix before being habitable (this is not counting the vanity stuff) - Put the washer/dryer piping and ducts back into the laundry room and remove from the kitchen pantry - Put the refridgerator outlets from the hallway closet to the kitchen pantry - Remove all the wood and shelves built into the wall in the washer/dryer room in the basement - Remove tons of bookshelves and faux shelves they built into the walls over the years - Change the carpet (upstairs is the priority, but the living room needs it too, such an ugly forest green) - Paint bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and living room (These people had NO taste whatsoever) - Get insulation done in the attic. - Install new screws in the patio So on Saturday Scott and I removed every shelf these people built into the house. I'm not talking about fashionable wooden shelves for bookcases...I'm talking about wal-mart style bookshelves, home depot wood planks, leftover cabinets when they refaced the kitchen...the list goes on and on. But yes, not only these shelves don't match anything in the house, they just NAILED, SCREWED, and GLUED it in and painted over it so it's tons of effort to rip it out. I can't emphasize how backwards they were and the random stupid tight places they these shelves and cabinets in (ie, basement hallway and basement entrance which is hard enough to get through since they span 3 ft. But we got a lot of work done! Not only did we remove every shelf (we filled 1 and a half dumpsters with shelves, I'm sure our neighbors hate us now) but Scott's dad came over and helped us rig the fridge back in it's rightful place in the KITCHEN. Yes, the kitchen is mustard yellow and the carpet is forest green. NO TASTE. Anyways, it has been successfully moved. Woohoo! We also started paint in the master bedroom. Ugh, I'll talk about that later. |
