At Yobikou, Shimizu announces a mock exam coming soon and warns her students that the scores will show their probability of getting into the college they want to get into. When Shimizu leaves the class, it leaves Hideki in panic of the upcoming exam.

At Yorokonde, Hideki thinks about his study schedule as he works, and decides to use his day off from work tomorrow to spend the whole day studying. Yumi approaches him and asks what he was going to do and he tells her he has to study his best for his mock exam. Yumi enthusiastically wishes him luck.

As Hideki arrives back home, Chii welcomes him with a hug as usual and he tells her that he has to study for his upcoming mock exam. As he sits at his desk and tries to study, Chii imitates his every behavior (his habits while trying to concentrate). After a while, Hideki looks for a dictionary around his pile of books but realizes he doesn't have one and begins to cry and roll around the floor in frustration (with Chii still imitating him).

The next morning, Hideki and Chii go to the town's bookstore. He finds a dictionary and finds it incredibly expensive and checks his wallet to make sure he has that good amount. He then notices Chii looking around and concentrating on the cover a specific book. Hideki picks up the book (a town with no people) and checks the price...and discovers that it's just as expensive as his dictionary. Trying to decide what to do as Chii stares at him, Hideki hands the book to Chii and tells her it's a present for her. In gratitude, Chii hugs him again (with the customers all around them laughing at the "love scene").

Back at the apartment, Hideki opens the picture book and finds the words more complicating than it looks. As Chii reads the first page, Shinbo walks into the apartment with Sumomo on his shoulder, checking to see if Hideki was studying. Sumomo does a little cheer for Hideki to do his best studying. It was then Hideki realizes that he forgot completely about studying and asks Shinbo if he has a dictionary he could borrow. Shinbo agrees to let him borrow it since he was already all set for test. Hideki tells Chii he'll be right back and follows Shinbo to his room.

Inside the apartment, Chii continues to read the book. In Shinbo's room, Shinbo explains to Hideki about a couple of words in the dictionary. As Chii reads the book out loud, it goes, "In this town, there are no people. There were houses with the windows lit up, but there were no people on the streets. I tried peeking inside the windows, there were people but they were with 'that'. I tried looking in other homes, and they were also with 'that'. It's because being with 'that' is fun. It's because it's more fun than being with other people. Nobody leaves their house anymore. There are no people in this town. I'm going on a trip and I'm going to try other towns. Hopefully, someone would find me there. But, if the only person for me likes only me, then I will have to leave them. Despite that, I want to meet him. Thinking that, I came to the town with no people."

As Chii contemplates what she just read, she begins to glow and slip into a trance. Outside the hall, Hideki thanks Shinbo for his help and goes back to his own room. As he walks in, he finds Chii glowing and in her trance-like state and he runs by her side to help her. As he touches her shoulder, she slips out of it and turns to Hideki as if nothing happen, he tries to figure out what was going on.

Hideki calls Shinbo to his room to check Chii out for him and Shinbo inspects Chii thoroughly. He tells Hideki he sees nothing wrong with her but that was probably a good thing since "no news is good news". Hideki thanks Shinbo for his trouble as he goes back to his own room. Chii asks Hideki if anything was wrong and he replies it was nothing. Hideki then begins to flip through Chii's book and finds the words difficult to understand. Suddenly the clock alarm goes off, notifying Hideki it was 7 PM and he starts to panic again because he wasted his whole day. As Hideki gives up and realizes that it was just too late for him to learn anything, Chii picks up one of his textbook and encourages him by saying "Hideki...fight!" Hideki then smiles and gets a little encourages and takes the book from her hands. At midnight, Hideki continues to study and everytime he appeared to be stuck, Chii pushed him on with a "fight" and renewed his determination.

At Yobikou, Shimizu announces the end of the test and tells the class to pass their papers forward. Hideki walks out with Shinbo, glad that it was all over. Shinbo asks Hideki what he was going to do now and he answers he has to get to work.

At Yorokonde, Yumi walks in on Hideki as he was works and gives him an asking look. Hideki gives Yumi a thumbs up that his test went okay and Yumi smiles happily.

As Hideki arrives back at the apartment, Chii welcomes him with the usual hug and Hideki thanks Chii for her help to help him study for his test. He tells her next pay day he'll buy her another gift and Chii happily tells him that she'll look forward to it. As Hideki prepares for dinner, Chii's voice echos in her mind the lines that she read in the book...that when she finds the person that's most important to her, she'll have to leave them.
